Expanding dryland cultivation is an effective measure to increase total grain output in northern Xinjiang, especially in Yili. However, most of the dry land is now an important spring and autumn ranch, part of the winter grass field, therefore, the reclamation of dry land and grazing often conflict. Apart from rational planning and ensuring the necessary pastures and livestock transfer paths for livestock husbandry, it is of major significance to correctly determine the crop composition of the dry farms, mainly the cultivation of grass of a certain area. At present, it is difficult to fertilize a large amount of land in drylands. Cultivating forage grass plays an important role in restoring soil fertility and preventing soil and water loss in drylands. In order to establish a consolidated feed site in the drylands, the Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan as early as 1938 to 1946, that is, running a dry land forage cultivation trials. The experiment is located in the province of Almaty (located in the middle reaches of the River Liri) and its natural conditions are very similar to those in the most densely populated area of Eritrea in Xinjiang. Therefore, their test methods and results deserve our reference.
