My fellow Americans: Recently, I was told that I am one of millions of people with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. After learning of this news, Nancy and I must make a decision whether to treat this as a private matter of an ordinary citizen or to publicize the news. Nancy had breast cancer in the past, and I had a tumor resection. We have found that our public announcement can raise public vigilance. As a result, many people have gone through frugal screening to allow patients to be treated early and to restore a normal and healthy life. We are very pleased.
