After a brief analysis of the shortcomings of the sound systems previously used in the large multipurpose halls, this article describes a new system that the Democratic Republic of Germany has studied for this purpose. This system is called “Delta Stereo.” The principle of this method is based on the direction of arrival of the first wavefront to locate. Several sets of loudspeakers are arranged on the edge of the afternoon stage to delay each group of sound source signals from the midday stage to each other in an appropriate manner and to be mixed for each set of loudspeakers. In this way, on the one hand, get a better orientation, on the other hand in all the hall area at the same time to ensure that the rules of sound intensity distribution, the appropriate space for several groups of speakers in the hall can also be arranged in several groups of speakers This system can be made more perfect on the afternoon stage by delaying their signals relative to the signals of the original source and the main loudspeaker set. The results obtained with this system at the Palace of the Republic of Berlin confirm the theoretical assumptions.
