桃江县现有茶园面积一十六万亩,是我省新兴的茶叶主产县之一。一九七九年,茶叶总产量达九万一千多担。其中春茶生产红、绿茶一万二千四百二十六担。今年春茶生产红、绿茶二万四千三百另九担。去年夏茶生产黑茶二万四千多担,今年夏茶生产黑茶二万多担,夏茶黑茶比去年同期减少四千多担,茶类调整是导致今年红、绿茶增产的原因之一,除此因素之外,春茶红、绿茶产量仍比去年同期增产百分之六十三点七三。今年夏茶生产红、绿茶二万四千六百六十三担,夏茶又比春茶增产百分之一点
