曼哈德·冯·格康:人们除了在自己的住宅,还要到公共建筑空间中去,这是人们生活的内容。公共建筑有特定的功能,所以要进行个性化的设计。国家博物馆,这座位于天安门广场的、代表中国形象的、历史悠久的建筑,我们最重要的任务就是要保持它的特色,彰显当代建筑的风采,又使其不能消失在历史的建筑里。因此我们保留了最大块的历史因素,内部结构、大面积功能区和装饰性的结构反映出国家的博大,一方面体现出历史特征,另一方面也体现出建筑设计师的愿望,同时也符合博物馆的功能性以及其里程碑意义。建筑师在做设计时,一定要注意公共空间在城市规划当中的作用,这是建筑的社会责任所在。
