The geophysicist Buren, an Australian, was born on June 29, 1906 in Auckland, North Island, New Zealand. Enter the University of Auckland in 1922, transferred to the University of New Zealand in 1925, math. 1928 math lecturer at the University of Auckland. In 1931 to study in Cambridge, England, successively in St. John’s College and Cambridge University mathematics, under the guidance of the famous British geophysicist Jeffries, Buren improved rapidly, as Jefferies’s right-hand man. Returning to New Zealand in 1933, he devoted himself to studying the problems of earth science mathematically. In 1940 to teach at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and serves as professor of applied mathematics at the University of Sydney. Buren’s many books, published a total of 280 papers and monographs, mainly discusses seismic wave travel time, seismic facies and the Earth’s internal structure. His first major work was with Jeffries
