通常,在研究眼的光学性能及视觉的工作中,主要使用检眼计,水晶体屈光计、眼底照相机等仪器,并用X射线或超声波配合测量眼的光学光轴和视觉光轴的长度。但这些测量都带有许多近似性质,特别是对水晶体的折射性能的估算方面。如果需要更准确的信息,例如在眼的调节期间曲率的变化,球面象差,光轴与视轴之间的差等等,就需要更先进的技术。
