举凡各国首府都不乏匠心独具的文化设施,华盛顿的特点在于集中而富有规划性.波托马克河与阿纳卡斯蒂亚河交汇处北岸腹地,沿国会大厦和华盛顿纪念碑之间的两条大道,毗粼而立的一幢幢风格迥异的典雅建筑物,分布着各种类型的博物馆,形成举世闻名的艺术、文化和科学研究中心.在这巨大的博物馆群中,除国立艺术博物馆外,均隶属于史密森中心(Smithsonian Institution)这个管理和研究机构.笔者参观了位于这座著名赫沙岩古堡两侧的国立非洲艺术博物馆、阿瑟·M·萨克勒亚洲艺术馆和佛雷尔艺术馆.
Washington is characterized by its concentration and planning, with its hinterland bordering on the north bank of the Potomac and Anacostia rivers and two highways between the Capitol and the Washington Monument Boulevard, adjacent to the sparkling stands of elegant buildings of different styles, all kinds of museums are distributed to form the world famous art, culture and science research center in this huge museum complex, in addition to the National Art Museum, both Affiliated to the Smithsonian Institution, a management and research institute, and visited the National Museum of African Art on both sides of this famous Hearthstone, the Arthur M. Sackler Asian Art Museum, Seoul Museum of Art.
