At the beginning of the 20th century, the excavation of a group of ancient salt-making sites such as the Seille Valley in the east of France started the precedent of salt archeology. Since the 1960s and the 1970s, salt archeology has gradually become a research hotspot in western archeology, and many other countries or regions have drawn much attention to this field. The research on salt archeology in Hong Kong started relatively late. However, with the deepening of the research on salt archeology in recent 10 years, more salt archeological information in mainland China and the world has been exhibited in the archeological community of Hong Kong in recent years.
