Through the combing and analysis of the evolvement of the image of the protagonist in the western tragedy, this article finds that the tragedy protagonists are played by the gods of ancient Greece, then the Enlightenment mortal appearances and then the modern animal-like inhuman images. On the one hand, the fact that this tragic figure has been dwarfed is influenced by the changes in the social era and on the other hand, it is an inherent expression of the requirements for the development of literature itself. The transformation of the tragedy protagonist from the initial heroic image to the later non-heroic image does not mean the disappearance of tragedy heroism.
