距离2006年世界休闲博览会开幕式还有7个月。据初步预测,休博会将为杭州带来1500万人次国内游客、100万人次境外游客,5000家以上国外企业云集杭城。为了唱响“西湘记”,位处湘湖区块的旅游、房地产、商业等各个产业均在有序的建设之中。目前,位于下湘湖,面积4.6平方公里、湖面1600亩左右的湘湖一期启动区块正在建设中,将随着杭州世界休闲博览园的建成,于2006杭州世界休闲博览会之前完工。除了湘湖水域的恢复,还有休博会主会场建设和湘湖区块房地产开发也都在紧密地进行着。湘湖以及世界休闲博览会的三大主会场———休博园、风情园、东方文化园(一湖三园)将共同打造一个杭州休闲旅游的工程,古老的湘湖在渐行渐热的休博会带动下,形成一定规模的休闲板块,休闲地产将借势脱颖而出。
