A series of tests conducted using a combination of high-resolution seismic reflection systems provided sufficient data to determine the percentage of rocks exposed to the seabed. Based on these test results, a method was developed to quantitatively analyze the seabed profile and to pattern the high-precision positioning of important rock habitats in most parts of the Federal / State rent-a-Beaufort Sea area. Those habitats identified as being of the same species consist of isolated residual sediments, which provide the remnants of the Pleistocene and Bourke massive boulder beds. These deposits have an exceptionally rich biota compared to the rest of the Beaufort Sea shelf.
