When I was teaching the students to cut the serve, they would imagine an outside corner firing off the pitch, pulling the opponent out of the court, or a straight ACE ball. Although the traditional “can opener” type of cutting serve is a very common type of cutting, I teach that the serve is the same in the pre-emptive (right-handed) peace zone (for left-handed players) effective. I call this service a great cutting serve. In essence, this is a ball with more power, combined with side-spin and spin-up, toward the “T” point. The combination of side and upside-down serve is not only full-strength but also high-security, which allows the ball to run slightly to the left as it does with the cutting serve, and also jumps up the opponent’s hitting area. This gives the opponent less pick-and-roll options because they have to hit the ball high and at the same time create a pitch on the pitch is not easy. Combination of spin and side spin serve can be an effective serve with both strength and safety.
