Lille followed Henry James to Lewis’s critical mode of thinking, criticizing the voice of the narrator in George Eliot’s novels, equating this narrative with the author’s own voice, believing that George Eliot had come from the wrong Braid network in shards. This article argues that Lille et al’s view is not reasonable. In Eliot’s later three novels, not only the voice of a character is created, but also all the narrative voices outside the voice of a character are created and the voice created by the author is different from the author’s own opinion . The narrative voice created by the author is an inherited and innovative voice based on the social context and literary tradition. This is a paradoxical art of narrative: creating a contradictory discourse structure with social traditions and ideological discourses and individual discourse of innovation, using this discourse structure as a symbol of the paradox of modernization.
