战友重逢邓小平同志是在1989年9月4日给中央政治局写信提出辞职请求的。但是,直到11月9日才算是邓小平正式退休的日子。因为这一天党的十三届五中全会批准了小平同志的辞职请求。1989年11月9日下午,小平同志笑容满面地来到人民大会堂,向出席十三届五中全会的同志们道别。他深情地说:“感谢同志们的理解和支持。全会接受了我退休的请求,衷心地感谢全会,衷心地感谢同志们。”
