A recent study by researchers at the Ludwiga Institute for Cancer Research found a metabolic weakness in glioblastomas and revealed in the study how to exploit this weakness to develop potential therapies. Glioblastoma is a type of brain cancer that is aggressive and incurable. The researchers found that glioblastoma cells, which transfer large quantities of cholesterol into the cells to maintain cell survival, can take advantage of drug molecules that are in the clinical development stage to specifically and effectively weaken this mechanism of maintaining cancer cell survival. Relevant research results published in the international academic journal Cancer Cell.
