大学人文素质教育的目标是使学生养成一定的科学精神、人文素质和艺术品性,为在专业学习中成为具有跨学科知识和能力的复合型人才,在未来成为会学习、会做人、会做事、会处事,受社会欢迎的全面发展的人才,夯实最根本和最重要的文化底蕴。要达到这个目标,高校教育工作者必须在实践中不断探索素质教育的有效途径和措施。新时期要努力促进人文素质教育与思想政治教育相结合,人文教育与科学教育相结合,学生全面发展与教师人文素养提高相结合,文化素质教育与创新人才培养相结合。
