In March 1989, Japan’s Ministry of Education and Science promulgated a new high school history syllabus, and stipulated that it should be fully implemented in 1994. Deepening international understanding, developing individuality education, and cultivating modern people facing the 21st century and being able to take the initiative to adapt to future social changes and possess rich sentiments are the basic objectives of the revision of this new outline. For this reason, the new high school curriculum divides the history class from the existing social sciences and divides it into four parts: Japanese History A, B (Elective) and World History A, B (Compulsory). In order to make our history teaching workers understand the specific contents of Japan’s new outline, the translation is for reference only.
