Diphtheria and tetanus have been basically eliminated in developed countries as a result of the widespread immunization program. Vaccination has greatly reduced the spread of strains of diphtheria toxigenic strains. In spite of this, there are reports of diphtheria outbreaks in some countries with high rates of immunization, as some adult antitoxin levels are below the minimum level of protection of 0.01 IU / ml.
