Objective: To investigate the effect of 4 ℃ preservation on blood oxidation and anti-oxidation. Methods: Plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) content, plasma total oxygen antioxidant activity (AOA) and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured by chemical colorimetry. Results: When the blood was preserved at 4 ℃, the content of plasma MDA gradually increased with the prolongation of storage time (P <005, P <001), and the total plasma antiactivation activity and erythrocyte SOD activity decreased gradually (P <0 05, P <001). After 21 days, the fluidity of erythrocyte membrane decreased significantly (P <005, P <001). Conclusion: Oxidative damage during storage of whole blood is related to the anti-oxidative system disorder besides free radical peroxidation reaction on the membrane.
