In October 2011, as a measure to reduce the burden of pertussis disease in infants and young children, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that pregnant women with no history of immunization receive 1 dose of tetanus toxoid and lower the antigen content Diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis conjugate vaccine (Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis Combined Vaccine, Tdap). Pregnant women are vaccinated with Tdap during pregnancy to provide protection against whooping cough before they reach the age of vaccination and to prevent their onset. Pregnant women vaccinated with Tdap can stimulate the delivery of whooping cough maternal antibodies, and passed through the placenta to the fetus for the newborn
