林雄成的《汕头话读本》(A Handbook of the Swatow Vernacular)出版于1886年,实际上是一部记录19世纪下半叶潮州方言自然口语的课本,语料翔实。本文以《汕头话读本》为基本依据,利用Excel的查寻和排序功能,以同音字汇的形式排列全书出现的所有单字的读音,以此归纳一百多年前潮州方言的语音系统,并与当代潮州方言进行简要的比较,透视百多年来潮州方言的语音演变。
Published in 1886, Lin Xiongcheng’s A Handbook of the Swatow Vernacular is actually a textbook recording the natural spoken Chinese of Chaozhou dialects in the second half of the 19th century. Based on the Shantou dialect reading, the article uses the search and sorting function of Excel to arrange the pronunciation of all the words in the book in the form of homophone vocabularies, and summarizes the phonetic system of Chaozhou dialect more than one hundred years ago. A brief comparison of Chaozhou dialects reveals the phonological evolution of Chaozhou dialects over a hundred years.
