The purpose of this article is to explore the guiding role of cognitive metaphor theory in teaching polysemous words in college English. Meta-metaphor is introduced as a theoretical basis of vocabulary teaching in thinking ability, which explains the use of metaphor in teaching polysemous words: Remember the efficiency of words, use the metaphor to appreciate the beauty of the language of the text, and use the metaphor to feel the cultural connotation of the language.
