The addition of fly ash to the bentonite slurry mixture can reduce the construction cost of the seepage cut-off wall in the dam by more than 10%. The filler used at Muskingum dam is mainly sandy porous slag. The dam, 457 m long and 19.80 m high, was built in 1968 to dampen the ash discharged from the newly-built fifth unit at the Muskingum Thermal Power Plant.
