This article is one of the papers of the 2015 Annual Meeting of the European Quality Organizations. The lead author Michael Dona is a senior consultant with Kemény Boehme in Munich, Germany. Based on the online survey of the quality people in Germany’s automotive, mechanical engineering and electronics industries, this paper summarizes the relevant data of quality cost and makes up for the lack of relevant data. The survey results show that there is a big difference between the use of quality tools and technologies and the total quality cost among the industries surveyed. The paper also reveals the relationship between profit potential and quality costs, as well as barriers to reducing quality-related costs. Due to the long length, this article published in two phases.
