In many tissues, including the surface of bladder epithelial cells, there are blood group A, B, O (H) antigens. The loss of these antigens from the surface of the tumor cells is associated with subsequent tumorigenesis, whereas specific erythrocyte adsorption tests confirm the presence or absence of these antigens. We examined bladder lavage fluid specimens from patients with bladder cancer and normal controls and then compared the results of bladder tumor patients with the original biopsy specimens for the presence or absence of cell surface antigens. Studies have shown that this method is simple and reliable, and has important value for screening and follow-up of patients with bladder cancer and prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve patients had no history of bladder cancer (normal control group) and 20 patients had transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder at various stages and stages.
