我场位于安远县城郊北面,是个人多田少的丘陵地区,原荒山较多,土质较瘠薄。自1963年办场以来,共造林57,534亩,其中营造杉木林36,875亩。数万亩杉木营造后,如何使其速生丰产,尽快地为社会主义建设提供更多的优质木材,这就是摆在抚育管理工作者面前的一项课题。建场初,由于我们对杉木生长特性不够了解,对杉木到底应采取什么方法抚育较好?是没有底的。以后,在生产实践中,我们发现土壤较疏松的山场,杉木幼林就长得好;板结的土壤,杉木就长得差,还往往成“小老头”。
