The Upper Greenwich gas reservoir characterization study for the U.S. Department of Energy was completed in August 1995 at the Bluebell-Altamont field in the Uinta Basin, Utah. The project includes two intersecting 2-D 9-component seismic line acquisitions, 9-component VSP logging, and longitudinal and shear wave assessment of different seismic responses to fractured reservoirs. Lynn et al. (TLE, August 1995) reported that the amplitude of P-wave amplitude associated with fissures in the Upper Green River reservoir in this field varies with offset and azimuth variations (AVOA), for multi-component VSP logging and terrestrial reflections Earthquake observed shear wave birefringence provided the basis. This paper confirms the observed proportional relationship between the longitudinal gradient AVO gradient and the birefringence of shear waves as a function of azimuth and shear birefringence. These results are based on two multi-component reflection seismic lines estimated and intersected at the survey line .
