New advanced technologies, largely based on fully-fledged microelectronics chipsets, are moving forward with explosive degrees of intensity, especially in the United States. This development will have a major impact on many aspects of the economy, including economic growth, productivity and employment. This article will analyze the development and impact of key technologies that are still vaguely understood on some occasions. In this article, the author reviews the development of the four most important contemporary technologies. He concludes that as long as the economy as a whole continues to grow, these productivity-enhancing technologies have been and can continue to develop harmoniously with the growth of employment. Richard W Rachel is a qualified management economist employed by the Productivity and Technology Agency of the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
