周廷旭(1903-1972)是一位已长久被人们遗忘的艺术家,虽然他在有生之年得到了很多的荣誉和认可,但他的作品至今已有30多年未展出。周先生生于厦门,先后在美国、法国、英国留学攻读美术专业,1929年获得最有权威的吞纳金奖(Turner Gold Medal),这是此奖项第一次授予一个外国艺术家,同时,其风景画而得英国皇室创办的皇家美术学院的金奖,1938年在英国与宋美玲的侄女结婚。周廷旭去世时,未留下任何子女,也几乎未留下任何照片、文字等个人资料。一位天才画家就这样消失在这了这个快速变化的时代。卡兹·波兹南斯基博士是华盛顿大学的经济学教授,更是一位对当代绘画进行过长期研究的艺术收藏家。1993年,他无意中发现了这位来自东方的天才画家的作品,被深深吸引,并开始了近十年收藏、研究、宣传的历程,并于2003年带着周廷旭40多幅作品来到中国在周先生的故里厦门鼓浪屿成功举办了“旭日之路”画展。由于他的发现,中国现代美术史上也许又多了一位杰出的油画先驱者。
Zhou Tingxu (1903-1972), an artist who has long been forgotten by people, has won a lot of honors and recognition in his lifetime, but his works have not been exhibited for more than 30 years. Born in Xiamen, he studied art majoring in the United States, France and the United Kingdom and won the most authoritative Turner Gold Medal in 1929. This is the first award of a foreign artist to this award. Dr. Katz Poznanki is a professor of economics at the University of Washington and an art collector who has conducted long-term studies of contemporary painting. In 1993, he inadvertently discovered the work of this talented painter from the East. He was deeply attracted and started the process of collecting, researching and publicizing for nearly a decade. In 2003, he came over 40 works by Zhou Tingxu China successfully held the “Road to the Sun” art exhibition in Gulangyu, the hometown of Mr. Zhou. Due to his discovery, there may be another outstanding oil pioneer in the history of Chinese modern art.
