循环换气技法已经存在了几千年,古埃及和古希腊吹奏奥洛斯的笛手,中国古代的唢呐、竹笛以及马来西亚早期Scrunai管的演奏者也都采用这种技法。在国外,20世纪50年代末,捷克的长笛演奏家安托宁马赫掌握了此项技法,能够一口气吹完巴赫的《阿列曼德舞曲》;70年代末澳大利亚长笛教师兹德尼克·布鲁德汉斯能够运用这种技法熟练地演奏《野蜂飞舞》和帕格尼尼的《无穷动》,他能把旋律中几千个音符全都不间断地吹奏下来。
