记者(以下简称记):您怎么理解“知识分子”?周有光(以下简称周):什么叫知识分子,知识分子有几个特点:第一,认识文字,不是文盲;第二,知识分子有大有小,小学毕业不能算知识分子,中学毕业勉强算,大学毕业可以算,但一定不能满足,不一定要留学,但要不断地补充自己的知识。大学毕业就有了补充知识的能力。要不断地看书,看世界的东西,当然也要看中国的东西;第三,要有独立思考,这最重要,没有的话你这知识分子搞不好。没有独立思考实际上不能算知识分子。
