本文评述冯天瑜、毛磊等教授所著的《中华开放史》，认为此书首先把“开放”作为中华文明史的一部分，以简练、生动的文字，把中华几千年的开放史阐释得相当清楚，使人一目了然；并在诸如“长城是否禁锢了中华民族的发展”、“宗教在开放中起了什么作用”、“中国为什么在近代会落伍”等问题上作了深刻分析，富有新意，引人爱读。
