无论是在西方还是在中国,悲剧都占用举足轻重的地位,但中西悲剧却是两种风格完全不同的戏剧。在西方,悲剧理论完备,悲剧被认为是崇高的集中表现。它表现主人公历经坎坷命运,痛苦与磨难,而引起观众的怜悯与恐惧,令人体味悲壮与崇高。中国悲剧是一种与西方悲剧风格完全不同的戏剧。它以“哀怨”“悲痛”打动人,来表现主人公身上诸如忠、孝等中国传统伦理道德,并以此给观众以道德教化。究其原因,还是在于中西文化的差异。西方天人对立的自然观,使西方崇尚个人,提倡人的抗争。中国天人合一的自然观,使中国人主张中庸、和谐。以家庭为本位的伦理观,使中国人的忠、孝等道德品质更为凸显。
