It is said that the U.S. media and government are “adversarial relations.” The most prominent example is the “Washington Post” reporter exposed the Watergate incident. Recent examples are the verbal abuse of President Clinton by the print and broadcast media. The media prides itself on its independence and its opposition to government. However, situations are often reversed in world ideologies and diplomatic struggles (with the notable exception of the New York Times publishing the Pentagon Papers on the Vietnam War). The media followed the official baton and sang the official tune. NATO military spokesmen can be called spin rneister - play with the facts, put themselves in the right experts. The Pentagon spokesman Kenneth Bacon is even a veteran. He was originally a reporter for The Wall Street Journal.
