在江西井岗山红色土地上的宁冈县培育的宁冈芙蓉李是李树新品种,以其“特优珍奇大”等品质而被列为国家星火计划科研项目,被国家科委命名为“宁冈芙蓉李”,荣获首届全国星火计划成果博览会优秀奖,誉为“李中之王”。 果苗种植后,两年始花,三年挂果,五年旺果,每年的7月上中旬成熟。果特大,紫红色,皮蜡粉,单果重100克,最大达180克,8~12个1公斤,通常3~5个结成为球。果实成串,逗人喜爱,形如苹果。它肉质厚,果核小,果味芳香,营养丰富,多汁,口感甜美,既可卖鲜果,又可加工成蜜饯、果脯、罐头等成品。
