有人说,“广州商品经济的发达,必然导致文化艺术水平的低格调”,此中果真有必然的联系吗?为解开这些疑问,我们且来看看广州及广州人。广州很早以前就存在商品经济的雏型,具备了发展商品经济所需的一定社会基础,人们在心理上已多少适应了商品经济的生活过程,所以,近年广州地区商品经济的发展尤为迅猛。但是,在此之前广州地区的商品经济乃是一种农业型的不发达商品经济,其中包含有自然经济的因素。这使得以自然经济为基础的传统文化,能够凭借着不发达的商品经济而潜伏下来,使得传统文化在当今发达的商品经济时代面前所受的冲击相对减少。由于对商品经济生活的心理适应及传统文化的潜伏,使得广州人在现代商品经济浪潮的冲击面前,较少产生心理的不平衡及对传统文化的决裂
