This article aims to illustrate the different functions of a large-scale computer-aided design system for large-scale integrated circuits. It provides an exhaustive overview of the design methods used so far, and in particular provides an analysis of the patterns and levels of description. The purpose of a CAD system is to bring all of these together and to provide designers with tools that enable both information to be identical and at different levels - at the feature level, at the structural level, at the logic level, Electrical level, physical level simulation.
