Western societies in the 1960s underwent turmoil in the economic crisis. People became suspicious of and resistance to the way of production and life in capitalist society. They felt resentful and confused about social conditions, which gave rise to postmodernism. Postmodernism has rapidly grown and affected various fields. Film art that reflects society and life has also been greatly affected and given a new mission. Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai, born and raised in this period, thoroughly fulfilled the mission of a postmodern film and established his own personal style through many excellent works. Regardless of its content or form, he fully demonstrated the postmodern cinema charm.
