楚文化的精髓是浪漫主义,这与楚国的历史与自然环境密不可分。楚文化的浪漫主义具体表现在楚先民的开拓与创新精神;楚地崇火、尚凤、信巫的习俗;楚人爱好自由、桀骜不驯的气质;以及楚文学与造型艺术的夸张、充满想象力的特征等方面。秦汉以后,浪漫的楚文化并没有随着楚国的消亡而衰败,相反,它已在全国范围内生根发芽、发扬光大,并与北方的中原文化融会贯通,成为了中国传统文化的一个重要组成部分。
