The novel “shawl” is a masterpiece of the American Jewish writer Cynthia Ozek. Short passages, essay-like language, calm narration, and passing of tragedy give readers an interest in reading the story itself. The novel portrays a commonplace incident in the Jewish catastrophe of World War II that appears to be filled with the typical Jewish ways of dealing with and being treated in seemingly ordinary life.
