1986年7月7日下午6时左右,在临海市岭根乡,下了一场热雷雨。仅50分钟时间,连续降雨117～200毫米。即时山洪暴发,冲屋毁坝,损失巨大。一、灾害和损失岭根是临海市东北方向的一个山区乡,全乡11个行政村,37个自然村,2096户9996人,有坡耕地16231亩。在这次暴雨洪水中,毁坏堤防、堰坝、渠道和小型水库等水利工程246处,其中全乡五分之二的小型水库被毁坏;岭根村60％的农户进水,金坑村一些农户室内水深达2米,50余公斤重的块石和大量泥砂冲进屋内,溪坑中700公斤重的块石被冲至屋角;一些农田被冲至隔土,即将收割的早稻不知去向,岭根村五分之一的包产良田被冲淹,损失粮食25万余公斤,占全年总产量的十分之一;山林、田坎大量被毁,倾倒田坎2184处。初步估算,经济损失近60万元,为全乡年总收入的三分之一以上。
