历史上在中轴线两侧对称设置的城市标志物,烘托了北京中轴线的城市中心地位,使之成为城市格局的脊梁,建立了严谨、主次明确、层级递进、收放有度的城市空间序列,使宏大的城市具有了强烈的向心力和归属感。北京作为历史文化名城,至今保存了大量古都城市建筑。其中轴线景观所构成的不同区域、不同建筑功能和以它为中心所形成左右对称的城市格局,仍能使人们穿越时空,领略这座五朝古都的悠久历史和灿烂文化。
