Objective: To investigate the relationship between plasma homocysteine level and carotid atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetic patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods: 160 patients with type 2 diabetes randomly selected in our hospital were divided into cerebral infarction group and diabetic group, with 68 patients and 92 patients respectively. There are 80 healthy volunteers, defined as normal group, serum homocysteine levels and carotid plaque type, plasma homocysteine level and the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis. Results: The serum homocysteine level in normal group was significantly lower than that in diabetic group and cerebral infarction group. The number of carotid unstable plaque in diabetic group and cerebral infarction group was significantly higher than that in normal group (P <0.05 ); Logistic regression analysis showed that plasma homocysteine levels were positively correlated with carotid atherosclerosis (r = 1.634, P <0.05). Conclusion: There is a correlation between carotid atherosclerosis and homocysteine level in type 2 diabetic patients with cerebral infarction.
