钎子折断是机掘勘探队在掘进过程中普遍存在而还没有很好解决的问题。根据几个机掘重点队的情况，断钎事故相当严重，均在不同程度上影响了生产效率的提高，因此，研究这个问题是当前机掘坑探生产中迫切需要的工作。笔者对此缺乏全面深入的研究，只就几年来现场观察体会，提出肤浅的意见，希望互相讨论，共同来提高对钎子修制与热处理方面的有关知识和技术操作水平，以防止断钎事故的发生。
