A recent study published in the Journal of Psychiatry claimed that embracing is a protective measure for those with intimate relationships, and embracing is a measure of behavior. In this experiment, Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences surveyed more than 400 adults, who completed a questionnaire about how well they perceived social support and participated in a two-week night-time telephone interview. On the phone, they need to answer the frequency of conflicts with others on that day and the number of times they were hugged. Later, the researchers exposed participants to a common cold virus and tested their infection status.
