Objective To investigate the hookworm infection and its influencing factors in rural residents. Methods From July to September in 2013, fecal seizures and on-site investigations were conducted on villagers aged 10 and over in a certain rural area of Hainan Province. Univariate and multivariate non-conditional logistic regression analysis were conducted. Results A total of 410 households were surveyed, with a hookworm infection rate of 32.00%. Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression analysis showed that elderly and females with low educational level, no protective measures, no toilets in the home, and plants planted in and around the hospital were the risk factors for hookworm infection (P <0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of hookworm infection in the survey area is at a high level. Health education should be strengthened for villagers. Priority should be given to preventive measures for agricultural operations and vigorous construction of sanitary latrines to effectively reduce the infection rate of hookworms in this area.
