上钢三厂转炉车间原有连铸机四台,配合三座25T氧气顶吹转炉。为了进一步挖掘浇注系统的潜力,扩大连铸坯产量和连铸比,解决第四台连铸机负荷过重,设备缺乏维护问题,因而决定增建第五台连铸机。 第五台连铸机从1976年2月起开始设计、制造、安装和试浇,于1978年8月下旬投入三班作业生产,至1981年8月底,三年来共浇铸钢19085炉53.25万吨。1979年转炉车间连铸坯产量增加了12万吨,连铸比提高了2.98%,1980年连铸坯产量增加了20万吨,
