为了筛选出适宜福建省种植的西瓜新品种，于１９９７年在福州地区进行８个自泰国引进的西瓜品种的早熟性、产量、品质、抗性等综合性状观察试验，以主栽品种益农新红宝为对照。结果显示，综合性状以东方祥瑞表现最佳，产量及品质均超过对照品种，抗逆性与对照相当；其次，东方如意早熟优质，含糖分高，但瓜形较小，可作为早熟小型瓜栽培，建议两品种在福建进一步推广种植。
