Japan’s earthquake-resistant architectural structures: The joists and shear walls were found to be particularly effective against earthquakes. In the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, rigid floors played a significant role in improving the seismic performance of buildings. Since the steel frame structure is flexible, the seismic performance is comparable. It is good, but it cannot withstand the high temperatures caused by the fire after the earthquake, and therefore feel that the steel skeleton must be wrapped in fireproof materials. After a moderate earthquake in Tokyo in 1921, it was once again proved that the reinforced concrete wall and the shear wall were firm. Damage survey after 1923 shows that the resistance of reinforced concrete walls
